Kurzfassung
For delta wings with rounded leading edge the primary flow separation is no longer enforced by the leading edge shape as in the case of sharp leading edges. In the front part of the wing even attached flow can exist. Further downstream primary flow separation takes place but the position of the separation line depends on the status of the separating boundary layer, being either laminar or turbulent. Despite of considerable progress in the last decade there are still deficiencies in the numerical simulation of this vortex dominated flow with separation especially for the modeling of the turbulent phenomena by the classic RANS-approach. Better results can be expected from hybrid RANS-LES models like DES which resolve the turbulent flow field outside the boundary layer in a more physical way. The goal of this investigation is a validation of DES in the unstructured DLR-TAU code for slender delta wings with round leading edges. The investigated configuration is a 65 degree swept wing model of NASA for which validation measurements exist. The investigations were initiated in the scope of the new international Vortex Flow Experiment (VFE-2) as a part of the RTO work group AVT-113 .
