Abstract
MERIS full resolution (FR) data is based on top of atmosphere radiances (ESA L2 data). This continuity index is developed using radiative transfer models for simulating the reflectance of the broad spectral channels of the NOAA – AVHRR and the small spectral bands of MERIS. A linear combination of MERIS channels describes each AVHRR channel. The weighting factors are determined from the results of the modelling approach taking into account atmosphere (SMAC), canopy and soil (SAIL) and leaves (SLOP). The continuity index will be available as maximum value composite (daily, 10-days and monthly). The first validation results show good agreement between the AVHRR NDVI and the continuity index.
