Review of Current Projects in High Enthalpy Shock Tunnel Goettingen (HEG)

Abstract

Of the list of current projects a few examples will be selected to illustrate the scope of activities. The studies to be discussed are the sphere test campaign, which was an attempt to study the differences between catalytic and non-catalytic heat transfer in high enthalpycontinuum flow, and the calibration of the new conical nozzle which was installed in order to improve the lfow quality. The sphere rake study was undertaken since this provides a simple model for the study of the flow dynamics of non-equilibrium chemistry, e.g. Wen (1994). In the HEG, tests on spheres ranging in diameter from 20 to 160 mm, mounted on a sphere rake, at three of the standard operating conditions, I, III & V, for air and nitrogen test gases, were recently performed.
