Abstract

A description of the principle and problems arising with the laser-induced fluorescence applied to wind tunnel testings is given. This technique can provide measurements molecular density temperatures (rotational and vibrational) of many gas species. Special foci of this paper are the NO - and the O2-molecules. The lecture reviews the advantages and disadvantages, provides an assessment of the applicability of this laser technique, and demonstrates several results obtained in supersonic wind tunnels. Finally the laser-induced fluorescence is compared to other spectroscopic methods.
