Abstract

The visualization technique described here works non-intrusively as it needs no equipment to be inserted in the flow near the boundary layer. The technique offers the possibility to study the different instabilities in a flat plate boundary layer in air very close to the wall. For the controlled generation of the instabilities a kind of acoustic excitation as a source of artificial disturbances is used.
