Abstract

In DLR technical assistance work to CNES on HERMES, an improvement of the bridging method for hypersonic rarefied flow was tried specifically for HERMES 1.0 by using available Euler data for the continuum limit, replacing Newtonian theory. Current results are presented for angles of attack alpha &#61 30 degree and alpha &#61 40 degree and Reynolds numbers 1000 < Re < 50000, which roughly embrace the conditions used in SR 3 wind tunnel experiments at CNRS Meudon.
