Abstract
For any digital communication system the socalled matched filter bound (MFB) is a real lower bound on the bit error rate (BER). The MFB for a given communication system can be obtained by considering all of its components as absolutely ideal. Effects such as synchronization problems, channel parameter estimation, and even intersymbol interference (ISI) are disregarded.
