Abstract
The Viterbi Algorithmus (VA) for detection and decoding is modified to deliver soft decisions, thus allowing multistage concatenations of several VA. Applications include concatenations of convolutional codes, trellis coded modulation with FEC codes as outer codes, coded Viterbi equalizing and joint channel and source decoding.
