Abstract

The problem of handling high data rates is exacerbated with a SAR, because of the need to perform complex data processing to generate the image. The data rate impacts on the platform resources, the coverage of the sensor and the distribution of image data. The paper discusses three areas in the SAR system where significant data reduction could be achieved. In combination, they could represent approach towards realising a new generation of low data rate SAR sensors providing near real-time data to a wide community of users.
