Kurzfassung

Since the inception of the DLR radar, the measurement of the radar echoes corresponding to the four elements of the target backscattering matrix, in a user chosen orthogonal polarization basis has become possible. In this paper we shall describe the essential method underlying the DLR-radar, some salient aspects of its calibration, the nature of the modifications in progress for achieving an even greater polarimetric versatility (with special reference to Mueller-matrix measurements) and some representative results stemming from the DLR-radar.
