Abstract

The functional aspects of the DLR radar are briefly described. The radar permits the characterization of scatter volumes or other targets by a time series of scattering matrices as well as by the Stokes matrix of the covariance matrix. Consideration is given to the microphysical interpretation of radar measureables. The performance of the radar and the theory applied is demonstrated by examples.
