Abstract

It is necessary to observe the continents, the oceans and the polar regions once every fortnight. An imaging system must therefore be independent of weather and sunlight conditions to ease mission planning. These requirements lead to space-borne synthetic aperture radar systems under study for this purpose. In the paper one part of the system is presented: the X-band SAR, X-EOS. The paper provides a system description as well as the fundamental sensor design.
