Abstract

The introduction of solar power as an alternative to other sources of energy for electricity production may be of special importance soon. Not only depletion of fossil resources could make fossil energy expensive. Global environmental aspects may also provoke legislative measures promoting renewable sources. The paper deals with the issue of power generation from solar radi- ation, attributing emphasis to advantages, but also to limitations arising thereof. Different technical solutions, energetic and economic aspects are discussed. Assessing renewable energy utilization schemes in comparison to the status of fossil power plants some hints towards viable alternatives are given.
