Abstract

The model SLOPE (Stochastic model for Leaf Optical Properties Extended for fluorescence) is based on the concept of Marcov Chains. It describes the radiative transfer in leaves and calculates transmittance and reflectance spectra between 300nm and 2.5µm. Input parameters are e.g. the concentrations and in vivo absorption spectra of chlorophylls, carotenoids and water in four leaf layers. The validation of the model shows very good agreement between calculated and measured spectra. The model supports the hypothesis, leaves are optimized for maximum light absorption. The model is applied in the development of new algorithms to interpret remote sensing data
