Abstract

Laser alloying of surfaces arose as an interesting method for technical applications. Laser alloying permits to improve hardness as well as wear and corrosion resistance of the surface without affecting the bulk material. Samples of different steels were laser-alloyed with CrB2, by adding CrB2 to the substrate surface by powder injection during laser surface melting. The resulting surface layers were studied by Moessbauer spectroscopy (CXMS). Some XRD and SEM studies were done. The results are discussed for substrate steels with different carbon contents and for different laser parameters and feeding rates.
