Abstract

The concept of a H2/O2 spinning reserve system for conventional powerplants and its control systems for stoichiometric propellant supply is able to reduce, in comparison with conventional methods, the consumption of fuel and the output of exhaust gases as well. The control concept is based on the in-situ metering of unburnt propellants (H2 and O2) by a calcia-stabilized ZrO2-sensor. Experiments have been carried out to study the time dependant behaviour of the sensor against H2 and O2 in superheated steam. The results show that the control concept based on the ZrO2-sensor is sufficient for a proper operation of the steam generator.
