Model Systems Criteria for the Cryogenic Low Speed Wind-Tunnel KKK of DLR

Abstract

This handbook sets forth criteria for the design, analysis, quality assurance, and documentation of wind-tunnel model systems to be tested at the Kryo-Kanal Koeln, KKK, of the Central Division Windtunnels of the Deutsche Forschungsanstalt fuer Luft- und Raumfahrt. The KKK is a subsonic cryogenic wind-tunnel which is operating with a nitrogen atmosphere. The tunnel can be continuously cooled down to a temperature of 100 K (-173 Grad Celsius) by injecting liquid nitrogen to achievc higher Reynolds-number, typically for full aircraft models Re &#61 9.5. 10 hoch 6, for two-dimensional profiles Re &#61 30. 10 hoch 6. The criteria contained in this document are intended to prevent model system failure and/or facility damage. The requirements in this document are manatadory for model systems to be tested in this wind-tunnel.
