Abstract

Conclusions: 1) Goals for I sub s = 800 s not met; 2) In air: accelerated air fraction unknown; all related values are wrong; 3) In vacuum: deposited energy goes up with increasing metal fraction, but coupling coefficient decreases; 4) Strong evidence for large energy loss in a decoupled laser absorption wave; 5) Nature and characteristics of absorption wave need investigation; 6) Can shorter pulse lengths help prevent decoupling?
