Kurzfassung
The research in future low-emission propulsion systems for civil transport aircraft and the development of new technologies to reduce climate-harming greenhouse gases and noise are significantly gaining im portance due to the growing demand for sustainable mobility. In order to utilise the full potential of safe, environmentally friendly and efficient aviation concepts, powerful drive solutions are required in particular. Permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) fullfill theses requirements, offer ing a large torque-to-weight ratio and a compact design while maintaining high efficiency [1]. For a safe and reliable operation of electrified powertrains under the demanding environmental conditions of aviation such as low temperatures, low pressures and high speeds, early and precise fault diagnostics are essential, as failures can have serious safety-relevant consequences. The present paper is primarily concerned with the detection of inter-turn short-circuit (ITSC) under the boundary conditions of elec trified aviation. An incipient short circuit between windings is a safety-relevant fault, that necessitates a fast and reliable detection in order to initiate appropriate countermeasures and prevent the machine from malfunctioning.
