Kurzfassung

The most common model for engineers to explain, measure and quantify resilience is a system performance curve that tracks system function over time in response to a failure event (also frequently called a resilience triangle, resilience curve, or rebound curve among others). While it is well recognized that resilience is more than just recovery from stress or functioning under pressure, the curve remains highly used. By discussing five cases using a generic flow-shop infrastructure example, this work highlights what may be overlooked when focusing solely on performance. The findings demonstrate that while there are benefits and some comparative strengths, a more nuanced understanding of the system performance curve is necessary, as many design and operational factors might be easily misinterpreted or missed.
