Kurzfassung

The development of certified liquid hydrogen systems for clean aviation requires a rigorous and systematic approach ensuring structural integrity, safety, and performance under various operational and extreme conditions. However, there is currently no established consensus or standardized building-block framework dedicated to the design and certification of composite pressure vessels for cryogenic applications. Within the EU Clean Aviation project CONCERTO, new simulation methods and strategies incorporating uncertainty quantification have been developed to support certification by analysis. A liner-less type V composite pressure vessel application is selected to demonstrate how modelling and simulation can be applied to determine onset of leakage under cryogenic conditions. The presentation will provide insights into the overall simulation strategy from small coupon to large structural level to assess material and structural behavior under thermomechanical loading. Inevitable uncertainties due to material variability, manufacturing tolerances and loading conditions as well as related modelling assumptions are individually assessed and propagated across all levels. This shows how modelling and simulation can effectively support design decisions, define critical test cases, and provide credible evidence for certification requirements applied to cryogenic composite pressure vessels.
