Maritime Security

Kurzfassung

Human security is a core dimension of maritime security, and human security threats have shaped maritime security debates and policies in profound ways. This chapter develops a human-centered framework to investigate the diverse ways in which maritime insecurities, such as piracy and illegal fishing, affect vulnerable individuals and populations around the world, including seafarers, migrants, and coastal populations. It also investigates human security issues in the evolution of counterpiracy strategy off Somalia, and draws lessens for how to integrate and coordinate human security policies into maritime security strategies in complex political environments.
