Kurzfassung

Head-on quenching (HOQ) of premixed hydrogen/air flames is numerically investigated using conjugate heat transfer (CHT) simulations to quantify the effects of wall thermal properties on the maximum wall heat flux, quenching surface temperature, and quenching distance. The flame-side thermal field is modeled as a one-dimensional conduction layer with a distributed heat source, yielding a physics-based linear relation between wall heat flux and the driving temperature difference under thermally dominated conditions. An effective heat-transfer coefficient is introduced to represent the combined conductive and chemical contributions. The wall response is classified using the Fourier number: thermally thick walls are governed by effusivity, while thermally thin walls are controlled by areal heat capacity. The framework is validated for near-stoichiometric flames, demonstrating consistent model structure with flamedependent coefficients. Regime-specific correlations capture transitions between adiabatic and isothermal limits over a wide range of wall properties. The formulation provides a predictive reduced-order framework for estimating quenching behavior using only freely propagating flame properties and isothermal HOQ simulations.
