Kurzfassung
The project Hy^2 will develop a decomposition software for the implementation of hybrid quantum-classical algorithms. This serves to prepare real-world optimisation problems so that they can be efficiently executed on Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum (NISQ) computers as well as on future fault-tolerant systems. As a real-world application, the operation of a hybrid combined heat and power plant with a storage system is considered. The efficient solution of such dispatch planning problems is of great relevance to energy suppliers, as this directly influences the economic viability of power plant facilities. Here, a potential quantum advantage arises due to numerous binary decisions and complex temporal dependencies, which make the efficient exploration of large combinatorial search spaces using quantum algorithms worthwhile. Furthermore, the software can be applied to other scheduling problems, in particular those based on Mixed-Integer Linear/Quadratic Programming.
