Abstract

The paper presents results from flyover noise tests conducted with a Cessna F406 Caravan II. The flyover acoustic data were acquired by multiple ground-based microphone stations forconstant level flights in 400 ft altitude. Flight velocity, propeller rotational speed, and flaps and landing gear positions were kept constant over a distance of 4 km during a single flyover, but have been varied between flyovers. In addition to acoustic data, flight data including information about the aircraft position and attitude, thrust settings, and weather data were recorded such that a comprehensive database containing acoustic data and associated well documented metadata could be set up. This database serves for validation purposes regarding numerical simulations or noise modelling, and also reveals key features of the F406 propeller noise and influencing factors. The paper describes the measurement campaign, presents the data and highlights some key findings. The database can be shared with selected partners.
