Kurzfassung
Green hydrogen derivatives like methanol and ammonia, serve as alternative maritime fuels, with shipping enabling their cost-effective transportation. To address the growing demand for green bunker fuels by 2050 and increase the attractiveness of bunkering at its seaports, Germany plans to establish import terminals. Considerable share of these fuels shall be imported from outside Europe. Namibia and Algeria lead Africa’s renewable energy potential for green fuel exports. Within EU, Portugal aims to leverage its renewable energy potential and coastline to export green fuels. However, supply uncertainties and market maturity differences challenge hydrogen infrastructure development. This paper addresses these challenges by assessing the shipping costs of these fuels from Portugal's Sines Port to North and Baltic Sea clusters in Germany, comparing them with Namibia and Algeria. The cost model includes production and transport costs. The levelized supply costs range from 782-1055 €/tonne for green ammonia and 822-1232 €/tonne for green methanol, depending on the carbondioxide source.
