Kurzfassung
Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are essential to the function of jet turbines; they insulate and protect from the extreme environment that is impossible to otherwise survive. Atmospheric dust and ash in the form of calcium magnesium alumino-silicates (CMAS) compromise TBCs by infiltrating and altering the physical properties of the coatings, leading to delamination and failure. This study presents the design and testing of a solid particle seeder for experiments investigating the effects of CMAS on TBCs. Unlike other fluidized-bed-type seeders, this design utilizes a unique method of mobilization that provides precise control of particle flow rate and density. Testing validated the working principle and demonstrated the controllability of particle flow rate. However, issues with the testing apparatus and particle agglomeration necessitate further testing before the device is ready for experiments.
