Abstract

The data contains atmospheric profiles generated by a Campbell Scientific SkyVue 8 ceilometer. The file follows the CF-1.8 (Climate and Forecast) conventions. The dataset is organized in daily files. Origin & Location: The data was recorded at a site in Kolsass, Austria; Processing Software: The file was created using CloudnetPy (v1.87.3) and ceilopyter (v0.2.0). These are specialized Python libraries used to convert raw instrument signals into standardized "Cloudnet" lidar products; Core Data Products: The dataset provides three versions of the Attenuated Backscatter Coefficient (β): Raw: The initial signal. Screened: Filtered for a Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) >5. Smooth: Further refined using a Gaussian 2D-kernel filter; Spatial & Temporal Grid: The data maps atmospheric returns across two main dimensions: Time (UTC) and Range (distance from the instrument). It also includes a height variable to translate range into altitude above mean sea level.
