The missing piece - prediction models to complement a Wildlife strike advisory system

Abstract

Wildlife strike prevention is important to improve aviation safety. To improve wildlife strike prevention efforts, an ATC advisory system could be used to inform ATC on possible bird strikes, using avian radar data. The advisory system needs accurate predictions of bird positions in the near future, to make reliable estimates of bird strike risk. To achieve this, a prediction model will be developed. In this presentation, the concept and ideas for such a prediction model are discussed.
