Kurzfassung

The movement of goods through freight system is essential to the functioning of global economies and is an invisible force behind the global progress. In railway freight operations, the "last mile" shunting phase, responsible for delivering cargo to its final destination remains a challenge due to its reliance on conventional process. To address the limitations and align with environmental sustainability goals, the electrification of last mile shunting operations presents a promising solution. This thesis focuses on the design and development of an electric powertrain system for an advanced self-propelled bogie and also on the preliminary evaluation of the thermal management of the overall drive system. The work involves a comprehensive analysis of the technical integration among powertrain components, focusing on the selection of optimal component types based on performance characteristics and ensuring their seamless integration while effectively managing cost and spatial constraints of the application. For each component type, multiple options were considered and technically integrated with other components to ensure that performance requirements were met. Various powertrain system configurations were then developed and evaluated based on efficiency, cost, and spatial constraints. The result is a well-integrated powertrain architecture optimized to deliver reliable and efficient operation within the targeted application domain.
