Abstract
In future aircraft concepts, the fan will be exposed to inhomogeneous inflow, e.g. due to the embedding of the engines in the fuselage. The aim of current experiments is to analyse the influence of the inflow distortion on the tonal noise sources. Different distortions are generated in a fan test rig and their aerodynamic and acoustic effects are measured. The paper shows that extensive test variations allow the separation and improved understanding of the dominant noise source mechanisms.
