Abstract

The O2 evolution/reduction reactions (OER/ORR) are common to solar-thermal H2O/CO2 splitting, electrolysers and fuel cells. A grand-canonical approach for absolute electrode potential and solvation energy of protons reveals a network of reactions with varying minimum energy pathways validated by ATR-IR spectroscopy. This is put into context with ongoing studies of OER/ORR on perovskite surfaces at 1500K.
