Big data and artificial intelligence are deeply intertwined, and both have experience in the last decade an extreme rapid development, producing astonishing results, but also posting many open questions. In this talk, we will revisit the original definition of big data, looking forward to identifying opportunities in the context of Earth observation, that could be transferred to other domains
