Kurzfassung
The integration of hydrogen tanks in the rear fuselage leads to a higher shift of the centre of gravity compared to conventional aircraft concepts along a flight mission affecting trim drag characteristics. It is necessary to take the alteration in aerodynamic performance characteristics into consideration for a scientific sound assessment of SAF and hydrogen aircraft concepts. Therefore, DLRs established conceptual aircraft design process is extended by the implementation of component-wise pitching moment characteristics and the respective impact on flight performance. Two short-medium range aircraft concepts, powered by sustainable aviation fuel and liquid hydrogen, are analysed and compared. The results indicate increased trim drag along the flight mission and thus a deterioration in aerodynamic performance for the cruise segment of the liquid hydrogen aircraft concept.
