Kurzfassung

The guest lecture focused on the electrical on-board systems of future More Electric and All Electric Aircraft. As aviation transitions toward higher levels of electrification, traditional power system architectures reach their limits. Increasing installed electrical power, combined with the shift of safety-critical functions such as flight control from hydraulic or mechanical to fully electric actuation, significantly raises the demands on safety, reliability, and power quality. The lecture outlined why new electrical system architectures are essential for future aircraft and discussed key design considerations, including DC versus AC distribution, grounding strategies, fault detection and protection, and the role of power electronic converters. Emerging concepts such as bipolar DC grids, modular sub-grids, and increased use of isolation were presented as promising solutions to manage fault propagation, ensure redundancy, and maintain system stability. Overall, the lecture highlighted the critical importance of system-level design for enabling the next generation of electric aircraft.
