Railway System Innovations for Mongolia - A Cooperative Approach

Abstract

The purpose of this contribution is to emphasize the importance of international research cooperation on modernizing and innovating Mongolias railway infrastructure for a wide field of applications in the domain of railway operation, maintenance and management. Starting from brief description of the challenges the railway sector is facing globally, the need for international research cooperations is being reasoned. In this paper, a structured approach is suggested that combines different methods and tools of cooperation in three sub-sequent phases. In addition, dissemination and exploitation strategies for consolidating research cooperation in mid- and long-term perspective are being sketched. This idealistic pattern of cooperation is then being challenged with the specific cooperation activities between Railway University of Mongolia and DLR Institute of Transportation Systems from Germany.
