Drawing on the recent discovery of Henrich Focke's 1955-56 Helicopter Design lecture manuscript in the DLR archives, this paper by Berend G. van der Wall provides a rare first-hand insight into the thinking of one of the pioneers of rotary-wing aviation. Alongside an examination of Focke's helicopter design philosophy, it explores his largely overlooked period at the Technical University of Stuttgart, using archival sources to reassess his academic and professional contributions during the mid-1950s and enrich our understanding of the early development of helicopter technology.
