Abstract

The continuous collection of geospatial data by satellites, weather stations, and other measurement systems generates vast amounts of data daily. High-resolution data sets from Earth observation satellites like the ESA-Sentinel mission are crucial for climate research, weather forecasting, and environmental monitoring. However, the efficient management and analysis of these multidimensional geospatial data pose complex challenges for scientists and data analysts. Traditional models for analyzing spatial data are reaching their limits, especially due to the growing temporal dimension of the data series. Interactive visualizations are an essential tool for intuitive data exploration and rapid insight gain, but they are heavily dependent on system latency, which can significantly impair analytical capabilities. To address these challenges, specialized data formats and interface standards have emerged. In the field of geospatial data analysis, OpenEO (Open Earth Observation) and OGC-WCS (Open Geospatial Consortium - Web Coverage Service) have established themselves as key interface standards. These interfaces integrate various technologies and web services to provide comprehensive solutions for managing and analyzing large geospatial data sets. The choice of a suitable data format and interface is crucial for the efficient scientific use of geospatial data. The models must ensure efficient access to spatial-temporal subsets of the data and high processing speeds for interactive analyses. Therefore, evaluating available data formats and interface standards is essential for developing efficient geospatial data analyses.
