Abstract

A developed scheme to evaluate foreign object debris (FOD) damage is applied for an assessment of military engine components. With the scheme, particularly fan components can be evaluated with respect to damage. The ingestion loading takes certification requirements of an engine and mission profiles of the aircraft into account. The evaluation demonstrates the influence by the inlet duct on several stages of the fan. On the numerical simulation part, the discretisation and meshing influence is studied here to confirm modelling requirements for a predictive analysis.
