Abstract

The integration of thermal storage and power-to-heat allows for a reliable and cost-effective on-demand heat supply from renewable electricity. The addition of the storage, not only firms the fluctuating electicity supply, but also allows to reduce electricity costs, while providing flexibility to the electricity grid. Heat demand in industry comes at a wide range of flavors and colors, e.g. in the form of steam of hot gases at a wide range of temperatures and hence requires an equally wide range of thermal storage solutions. This contribution provides an overview of the storage supported power-to-heat solutions being developed at DLR: - PCM-Storage - Molten Salt Storage - Solid Media Storage - Thermochemical Storage
