Abstract

Microgravity (ug) is regarded as one of the major stressors in space causing immune cell dysregulations. Artificial gravity (AG) encompasses both the restoration of 1g in ug as well as the induction of hypergravity in order to counteract ug-induced deconditioning in space. This approach has already shown efficiency as a countermeasure option for ug-related musculoskeletal and cardiovascular deconditioning and as “gravitational therapy” on Earth. However, the impact on the human immune system was yet only sparsely explored. In a shorttime in vitro approach it was tested whether “mild” hypergravity (2.8g) may counteract simulated (s-)ug-induced dysregulations of monocytes and T cells.
