Abstract
This lecture note provides an overview of the rather novel event-based vision (EBV) technology and its current applications in the field of experimental fluid dynamics. The underlying concept concepts of event-based imaging are described along with its strengths and limitations, followed by a listing of currently available hardware. The second section introduces a concise, although not complete, overview of the wide and growing spectrum of applications involving EBV, with applications in the field of flow diagnostics treated separately. Further insight into recent flow diagnostics setups employing EBV is given by three separately treated configurations: (1) time-resolved measurement of a turbulent boundary layer profile, (2) 3d-3c particle tracking velocimetry of the near wall flow for wall shear stress measurement and (3) efforts on the implementation of real-time event-imaging velocimetry for possible future use in active feed-back control. The chapter concludes with the author's perspective on anticipated further developments in the emerging field of EBV.
