Abstract

The DLR Liquid Upper Stage Demonstrator Engine (LUMEN) project is a significant innovative contribution to the research and development of a new era of rocket engines. This project brings experimental research to a new level and allows the combined investigation of the full engine system including all main components of a rocket motor. Within the project's framework, a 25 kN regeneratively cooled LOX/LNG thrust chamber has been developed and manufactured. This thrust chamber is designed to operate in conjunction with LOX and LNG turbopumps. The new combustion chamber underwent rigorous testing at the European Technology test bench for cryogenic rocket engines (P8) in DLRLampoldshausen. This paper provides an in-depth description of the thrust chamber design, highlighting key constructional features, along with the results of the qualification program and the initial test series.
