Abstract

The integration of spaceplanes and hypersonic transporters into airspace presents a transformative opportunity for accessing space. However, this innovation hinges on critical enablers like flexible and efficient airspace management. As the interface between Earth and space, airspace must accommodate the unique flight profiles of spaceplanes, which can combine relatively low-altitude, high-velocity operations with reduced reaction times. Current integration methods and procedures lack the flexibility and efficiency required and may create significant impacts on conventional air traffic. To address these challenges, enhanced real-time services, adaptive airspace restrictions, and advanced concepts like 4D operating zones are essential. These innovations will enable streamlined operations while ensuring safety and minimal disruption to air traffic. This presentation explores the path forward for harmonizing aviation and space flight operations through cutting-edge airspace integration solutions.
