Abstract

The LIMELISA project, funded by BMWK (FKZ 03EE5050C), aims to test materials and key components for thermal energy storage, such as pumps and valves, from KSB SE & Co. KGaA at temperatures exceeding current standards. The envisaged temperatures for the tests are 620°C for molten nitrate salts (at DLR) and 700°C for molten lead (at KIT). Using molten salts or liquid metals in the heat storage system of Carnot batteries offers the potential to increase the efficiency of heat-to-power conversion due to a raised the storage temperature.
