Abstract

The Moon offers an unprecedented opportunity to become a strategic platform for space exploration through the implementation of in-situ resource utilization (ISRU). By harnessing lunar resources, such as water ice in the polar regions, we can produce essential consumables like oxygen, water, and fuel directly on the Moon. This capability shifts the paradigm of space missions, reducing the need for Earth-based resupply and enabling sustainable long-term operations in space. This presentation will introduce lunar ISRU technologies, and present a new perspective on the Moon, not just as a destination, but as a launchpad for deeper space exploration, including Mars and beyond. By leveraging the Moon’s resources, we can establish a self-sustaining space economy and lay the groundwork for humanity’s future in the solar system.
