Kurzfassung
Small and light vehicles such as bicycles, mopeds or microcars offer a high potential for more sustainable individual mobility compared to conventional passenger cars. Although many models in the light vehicle sector are still powered by an internal combustion engine, there are also increasingly electrified variants - light electric vehicles (LEVs). In these, the focus is on battery-electric models but there are also vehicles with fuel cells. This article provides an overview of the definition of LEVs, fields of application, their emission reduction potential, technological aspects of battery electric and fuel cell powertrains, the market situation and today’s challenges as well as future trends.
