Abstract
The 'ZKI Fire Monitoring System' of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) is making new research methods in the field of satellite-based wildfire detection easily accessible to academics and practitioners alike. The system provides up-to-date wildfire information for Europe and other pre-selected areas. Aiming at monitoring burnt areas and their spatial development in near-real time, a fully automated approach was developed (Nolde et al., 2020, Nolde et al., 2021) and implemented in a thematic processing chain. The 'ZKI Fire Monitoring System' is operated by the Center for Satellite Based Crisis Information (ZKI) of DLR.
