Abstract

This thesis and the development of the sail assisted ammonia tanker hull, under the name "Ammonia Eco’" has taken place as a cooperation project between the Institute of Maritime Energy Systems of the German Aero Space Centre (Deutsches Luft- und Raumfahrtzentrum) (DLR) and Dykstra Naval Architects (DNA). It has gone alongside a broad banded feasibility study under the name ’HyRo’, conducted by the Institute of Maritime Energy Systems of the German Aero Space Centre (Deutsches Luft- und Raumfahrtzentrum) (DLR) into a wind-assisted tanker vessel. At Dykstra Naval Architects (DNA) the project has been embedded into the continuous development and advancement of Wind Assisted Shipping. The work in this thesis is founded on prior work conducted in this field, for instance for the Ecoliner concept.
