Cross Border Data Exchange and Operational Support for Mixed Airspace Operations

Abstract

The increasing frequency of space launches and growing air traffic present fresh challenges for airspace management. Current systems are ill-equipped to handle the unique characteristics and operational complexities of suborbital and orbital space launches. How to coordinate and manage space launch activities within existing airspace infrastructure is an open challenge to the aviation community. This presentation addresses the cross-border aspects of launch and re-entry operations and highlights the resulting requirements for coordination between all parties involved. To this end, approaches to solutions will be presented that DLR has investigated together with its various partners in recent years.
